Mark Suarez Brings Active Transportation Expertise to BWCF Board

Bike/Walk Central Florida is proud to welcome Mark Suarez, P.E., to our Board of Directors. With nearly two decades of experience in transportation engineering, Mark brings a strong background in designing and delivering projects that improve how people move through their communities—especially when it comes to walking, biking, and rolling.
Based in Central Florida and working extensively on local infrastructure, Mark offers both technical expertise and a deep understanding of the region’s transportation landscape. His experience aligns closely with BWCF’s mission to create safer, more connected communities.
Turning Vision into Real-World Projects
Mark specializes in municipal transportation projects that focus on active transportation, speed management, and community enhancements. His work spans the full project lifecycle, from early planning and concept development through final design and construction, giving him a practical understanding of how to move ideas from concept to completion.
He has led and contributed to a wide range of projects across Central Florida, including:
• Complete Streets corridors that improve safety and accessibility
• Trail and connectivity projects that strengthen local networks
• Traffic calming and speed management initiatives
• Streetscape improvements that enhance how communities function and feel
This hands-on experience brings valuable insight into how infrastructure decisions impact everyday travel and quality of life.
Experience Rooted in Central Florida Communities
Mark has worked on several notable projects in the region, including the Edgewater Drive Complete Streets project in Orlando, where he helped guide a complex, multi-phase streetscape redesign shaped by extensive community input and stakeholder coordination.
He has also played a key role in advancing trail and bike network improvements through efforts like the Downtown Connector Trail and Washington Street cycle track, helping build a more connected system for people traveling through Orlando.
Across his work, a consistent theme stands out: creating solutions that reflect the needs of the community while balancing safety, access, and long-term usability.
A Collaborative Approach to Transportation
In addition to his technical expertise, Mark brings experience working closely with city staff, stakeholders, and community members to shape project outcomes. He is skilled at facilitating planning and visioning discussions, helping communities arrive at solutions that work for the people who use them.
His background also includes service on the City of Orlando Municipal Planning Board, where he served as Chair and Vice Chair. In that role, he gained valuable experience navigating complex projects and balancing diverse perspectives—from engineers and developers to residents and public officials.
Strengthening BWCF’s Work in the Region
Mark’s combination of technical knowledge, local experience, and collaborative approach adds meaningful perspective to BWCF’s work. His ability to evaluate projects, refine concepts, and understand how infrastructure decisions are made will support efforts across advocacy, education, and planning.
As BWCF continues working to advance safer streets and better-connected communities, Mark’s insight will help strengthen how we engage with projects on the ground and support communities working toward safer options for walking, biking, and rolling.
We’re excited to welcome Mark to the board and look forward to the expertise and perspective he brings to Bike/Walk Central Florida.
