Our Work in Motion
Explore real-world examples of how we support and advance active transportation networks in communities across Central Florida.
The Healthy West Orange Trails Connection (HWOTC) is a collaborative active transportation initiative facilitated by Bike/Walk Central Florida. HWOTC brings together local governments, agencies, organizations, and community stakeholders to support a connected, regional trail network in West Orange County.
Through HWOTC, partners work together to:
Support long-range trail planning and evaluation
Strengthen coordination across jurisdictions
Advance connections between existing and future trails
Share data, mapping, and engagement tools that support trail development
This collaborative approach helps align planning, funding, and community priorities to create a more seamless active transportation network for residents and visitors alike.
Mapping & Wayfinding Resources
Bike/Walk Central Florida partners with communities to create clear, easy-to-use maps and materials that help people navigate and understand active transportation networks.
This support can include:
Public-facing materials designed for easy sharing and wayfinding
Trail and route maps highlighting connections, destinations, and trailheads
Collaboration with local stakeholders to ensure accuracy
Delivery of files so materials can be updated and reused over time
These resources help improve visibility, wayfinding, and public understanding of how walking, biking, and rolling networks connect.
Active Transportation Planning
& Network Development
BWCF works with communities, agencies, and stakeholders to plan and strengthen active transportation networks that support walking, biking, and rolling for everyday trips and recreation. These projects bring together data, local knowledge, and collaboration to help communities move from vision to implementation.
This work includes development of a citywide active transportation network for the City of Apopka, connecting destinations such as Downtown Apopka, Rock Springs, and Lake Apopka, with portions of the adopted plan already moving into construction.
Additional work shown here reflects active transportation network planning completed for the Packing District redevelopment area at the request of Dr. Phillips, Inc. This effort focused on strengthening connections to surrounding neighborhoods and regional destinations, including links east to College Park, south toward Creative Village, and west to the Pine Hills Trail and Coast-to-Coast Trail. Across these efforts, BWCF contributed network planning, project cost estimates, identification of constraints, and coordination with agencies and community stakeholders.
BWCF worked with the City of Apopka to develop a comprehensive active transportation network connecting trails, sidewalks, bike lanes, and shared-use paths. The effort was informed by engagement with Orange County, MetroPlan Orlando, East Central Florida Regional Planning Council (ECFRPC), Florida Department of Transportation, and community members as project stakeholders.
The network is designed to support people walking, biking, and rolling as they access key economic and recreational destinations throughout the city, including Downtown Apopka, Rock Springs, and Lake Apopka.
Adopted by the City in August 2023, the plan is already moving into implementation, with construction underway on several segments.
