Operation Best Foot Forward Expands Reach & Impact Across Florida

This spring, Operation Best Foot Forward (OBFF) reached new milestones, expanding its footprint, strengthening collaborations, and continuing to shift driver behavior at crosswalks across Florida.

Led by the Best Foot Forward pedestrian safety program, OBFF is part of a long-term, data-driven effort focused on one simple but critical behavior: getting more drivers to stop for people in marked crosswalks, as required by Florida law.

Through a combination of education, high-visibility enforcement, and low-cost engineering improvements, the program works with communities to make everyday crossings safer and more predictable.

From March 10 through April 3, communities across the state came together for a four-week operation, the longest in the program’s history , focused on improving safety at crosswalks and helping people move safely from place to place through a shared culture of respect on our streets.

A First for Jacksonville and a Growing Statewide Effort

One of the most significant milestones this year was the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office joining Operation Best Foot Forward for the first time .

This expansion marks an important step beyond Central Florida and signals growing interest from communities across the state in adopting proven strategies to improve crosswalk safety.

Why Focus on Parks and Community Destinations?

For this operation, crosswalks near parks, trails, and community destinations were prioritized; places where more people are out and active during spring break and Florida Bicycle Month. Previous program data has shown that driver yield rates tend to be lower in these environments, making them critical areas for focused education and awareness.

Research supports this approach. A study published in Injury Prevention found that the risk of child pedestrian fatalities is more than twice as high near parks compared to schools, likely due to the additional traffic controls typically present in school zones.

Building Toward Safer Streets

Operation Best Foot Forward is not a one-time effort; it’s part of a sustained strategy to improve driver yield rates over time.

Each operation builds on the last, expanding reach, strengthening partnerships, and reinforcing a culture where stopping at crosswalks becomes the norm, not the exception.

As more communities participate and awareness continues to grow, the impact extends far beyond any single intersection.

A Long er Operation, A Larger Impact

For the first time, OBFF was conducted over four weeks instead of two, allowing for more consistent engagement and visibility across participating communities.

That extended timeframe contributed to the highest level of enforcement activity in the program’s history , with a combined total of:

646 warnings and citations issued to drivers who failed to yield at marked crosswalks.

These numbers aren’t just about enforcement; they represent real-time opportunities to educate drivers, reinforce expectations, and encourage safer behavior moving forward.

Visibility Beyond the Crosswalk

In addition to on-the-ground enforcement, many participating agencies actively shared their involvement on social media, extending the reach of the message beyond each individual crosswalk.

This visibility plays a critical role in reinforcing awareness:

reminding drivers what the law requires
showing real-world examples of enforcement
encouraging safer behavior even outside of active operations

It also reflects a broader shift: more agencies are recognizing that improving driver behavior at crosswalks is not just about enforcement, it’s about creating safer, more predictable environments where people can move confidently through their communities.

By focusing on these locations, the operation addresses a key gap in how drivers anticipate and respond to people crossing the street.

Welcoming Wade Walker to the BWCF Board of Directors

Bike/Walk Central Florida is proud to welcome G. Wade Walker, P.E., Hon. ASLA, to our Board of Directors. With more than 30 years of experience in transportation planning, engineering, and urban design, Wade brings nationally recognized expertise in shaping places where people can move safely and comfortably, whether they are walking, biking, rolling, or driving.

A professional engineer and thought leader in Complete Streets and multimodal transportation, Wade has built a career around one core idea: transportation systems should work for people. His approach closely aligns with BWCF’s mission to advance safer, more connected communities across Central Florida.

A National Perspective on How Streets Should Work

Wade is widely recognized for his work in walkability, active transportation, and Smart Growth, and frequently speaks at national conferences on Complete Streets and balanced mobility. His work is rooted in collaboration, bringing together planners, engineers, designers, and community voices to develop solutions that reflect how people actually move through their communities.

His focus on “livable mobility systems” emphasizes practical, real-world design of streets and networks that improve safety, support access, and enhance quality of life.

Experience That Connects Policy, Planning, and Design

Wade currently serves as a Senior Principal Engineer with Kittelson & Associates, where he has helped expand transportation and urban design work across Florida. His experience spans the full spectrum of projects, from long-range plans to on-the-ground design, giving him a comprehensive understanding of how ideas turn into real improvements.

Throughout his career, he has led work on:

Trail systems that connect people to recreation and everyday destinations
Complete streets projects that improve safety for all road users
Downtown and corridor plans that support local economies
Regional strategies that prioritize thoughtful, lower-impact solutions

The first median-separated bike lane and dedicated bike signal in Tennessee, installed on the Hampline Park to Park Connector in Memphis - Wade was engineer-of-record.

Across all of this work, a clear throughline emerges: transportation decisions shape how communities function and grow.

Bringing National Expertise Back to Central Florida

Wade began his career in Central Florida and has since worked on projects across the country. Now back in the region, he brings both local familiarity and national perspective.

His recent work includes trail safety enhancements along the Cross Seminole Trail and Seminole Wekiva Trail , as well as helping shape the vision for the Sweetheart Trail in Daytona Beach—a project focused on creating a more connected, accessible trail experience through the heart of the community. He has also contributed to trail and mobility projects across Florida that make it easier for people to move through their communities and stay connected.

In addition to his project work, Wade has helped shape national guidance as a contributing author of the FHWA Small Town and Rural Multimodal Networks Guide , influencing how communities across the country approach active transportation planning.

Strengthening BWCF’s Vision for Connected Communities

Wade’s experience brings added depth to BWCF’s work from big-picture vision to real-world implementation. His background in engineering, planning, and policy will help inform efforts to improve trail connectivity, advance Complete Streets, and support communities working toward safer, more practical transportation options.

Welcoming Rich Maladecki to the BWCF Board of Directors

Bike/Walk Central Florida is pleased to welcome Richard “Rich” Maladecki to our Board of Directors. With more than four decades of leadership experience across nonprofit management, public policy, hospitality, and community development, Rich brings a deep understanding of how strong governance, strategic planning, and partnerships can advance meaningful change.

As a longtime bicyclist and advocate for safer walking and biking, Rich is drawn to BWCF’s mission to create safer, more connected communities across Central Florida. His professional background and personal commitment to active transportation make him a valuable addition to our board as we continue to grow our programs and impact.

A Career Rooted in Leadership and Strategy

Rich is a retired senior nonprofit and hospitality executive with 45 years of experience managing operations, finance, and service delivery for organizations. Most recently, he has served as a consultant supporting leadership transitions and board development, including work with the National Entrepreneur Center (Orlando) , regional chambers of commerce, and Bike/Walk Central Florida’s own board retreat in 2025.

For more than two decades, Rich served as President and CEO of the Central Florida Hotel and Lodging Association , leading what was widely recognized as the world’s largest regional lodging association. During his tenure, he oversaw a $2 million budget, empowered governmental affairs and political action committees, developed and initiated several community charity partnerships, and built long-term financial stability through the creation of a permanent reserve fund.

His career also includes executive leadership roles with national and regional nonprofits such as Parents, Inc. , The Electrical Association of Philadelphia , and Junior Achievement across multiple states, where he led strategic planning, fundraising, board development, and organizational restructuring efforts.

Experience That Strengthens Community Impact

In addition to his executive roles, Rich has held numerous volunteer leadership positions throughout Central Florida, including service on boards for Visit Orlando , the Orange County Library Board of Trustees (where he served as Board President), the Valencia College Foundation , and the Central Florida Boy Scouts . He is a two-time President of the Dr. Phillips Rotary Club and a Paul Harris Fellow .

Rich is also an accomplished educator and author. He has taught nonprofit management and hospitality courses at the University of Central Florida , UCF Rosen College , and Valencia College , and is the author of Bits, Tips, and Power Points , a practical guide for nonprofit managers published by the American Society of Association Executives .

His leadership and contributions have been recognized with numerous honors, including induction into the Central Florida Hospitality Hall of Fame , Tourism Executive of the Year by the Orlando Business Journal , and repeated recognition as one of Orlando’s most influential leaders, just to name a few.

Supporting Safer Walking and Biking in Central Florida

In his board application, Rich shared that as a bicyclist for more than 20 years, he values organizations that advance safe biking and walking. At Bike/Walk Central Florida, his expertise in board development, public policy, and organizational strategy will help strengthen our ability to advocate for safer streets, support community partners, and guide long-term sustainability.

Now in its third year, Bike/Walk Central Florida’s Wheel of Achievement Awards continue to shine a spotlight on the people and organizations driving real, measurable change in their communities. On the afternoon of November 14, 2025, we gathered at the Florida Bicycle Summit in Winter Garden to honor the projects, advocates, and leaders shaping the future of walking, biking, and rolling across Florida.

The Wheel of Achievement Awards were made possible with the support of Orlando Health , whose commitment to healthier, more active communities helps advance Bike/Walk Central Florida’s work to create safer, more connected places to live and move.

Innovative Bike/Ped Plan or Design

Winner: City of Greenacres & Treasure Coast Regional Planning Council

Project: Greenacres Safety Action Plan

Why they were selected:

The Greenacres Safety Action Plan represents a major step forward for people-first planning in Florida. As the city’s first comprehensive effort to address traffic safety, the plan responds to a documented history of more than 1,500 crashes annually, many involving people walking and biking.

Adopted in June 2025, the plan was shaped through extensive community engagement, collaboration with schools and partner agencies, and alignment with Vision Zero principles. It identifies clear, actionable strategies to reduce serious injuries and fatalities while improving access and mobility for all road users.

A standout feature is the Bike Greenacres premium bicycle network, which expands the city’s bikeway system from 5 to 25 miles, connecting neighborhoods, schools, transit stops, and economic centers. Together, these efforts set a strong statewide benchmark for data-driven, community-centered safety planning.

Innovative Bike/Ped Infrastructure: Small Scale

Winner: City of Altamonte Springs

Project: Spring Oaks Boulevard Traffic Calming Project

Why they were selected:

The Spring Oaks Boulevard Traffic Calming Project shows how targeted, neighborhood-scale engineering improvements can deliver measurable safety outcomes. Implemented along a half-mile corridor connecting neighborhoods, schools, parks, retail destinations, and the Seminole Wekiva Trail, the project addressed long-standing concerns related to speeding and cut-through traffic. Post-implementation data shows a reduction in vehicle speeds along the corridor, confirming the effectiveness of the design interventions. As a result, the project now serves as a blueprint for future traffic calming efforts, illustrating how thoughtful engineering can improve safety, livability, and community connection.

Through practical, cost-effective design treatments, the City of Altamonte Springs improved everyday comfort and safety for people walking, biking, and driving—creating a calmer, more predictable street environment for the surrounding neighborhoods.

Honorable Mention: City of North Port — Myakkahatchee Creek Greenway Trail

For delivering a 1.1-mile ADA-accessible boardwalk and paved path that safely connects neighborhoods with nature while protecting wetlands, wildlife, and cultural resources. This free, community-focused project enhances accessibility, encourages physical activity for more than 25,000 annual visitors, and reflects a strong commitment to sustainability and stewardship.

Why they were selected:

The Fort Fraser Trail Extension strengthens one of Central Florida’s most important regional trail corridors. The existing 10.2-mile multi-use trail connects Bartow and Lakeland along US-98 and is heavily used by people walking, running, and biking.

The extension south of the Polk Parkway, routed through the Orlando Health campus, significantly expands access for employees, patients, and visitors while enhancing regional connectivity. Integration with the Lakeland Lake-to-Lake Bikeway and the Tenoroc Trail system links communities to parks, natural areas, and recreation opportunities.

This collaborative effort among local governments, regional partners, healthcare institutions, and state agencies exemplifies how large-scale infrastructure investments can promote active transportation, public health, and long-term community connection.

Honorable Mention: Naples Pathways Coalition — Paradise Coast Trail

For advancing a bold vision for a paved, separated regional trail network, now expanded from 70 to 100 miles, that will connect communities and destinations across Southwest Florida. With inclusion in the SUN Trail network and construction planned to begin by 2030, this project is accelerating regional connectivity decades ahead of typical timelines.

Honorable Mention: Michelle Avola-Brown

For her tireless leadership advancing Hands Free Florida at both local and statewide levels through coalition-building, policy advocacy, public education, and hands-on safety efforts, including helmet fittings and school presentations.

Why they were selected:

Naples Pathways Coalition has led a sustained, statewide effort to address one of the most pressing safety threats on Florida’s roads: distracted driving. Through the Hands-Free Florida campaign, the coalition has worked to expand hands-free cell phone laws beyond school and work zones to protect all road users, especially people walking and biking.

With more than 65 coalition members and support from over 30 municipalities and organizations, their advocacy has driven bipartisan legislative progress across multiple sessions while elevating public awareness through education and outreach. Their persistence and coalition-building exemplify effective, life-saving public policy advocacy .

Why they were selected:

Justin Cournoyer has emerged as a powerful grassroots leader advocating for the transformation of the I-175 highway spur in downtown St. Petersburg. Through town halls, street festivals, public feedback campaigns, social media engagement, and participation in FDOT stakeholder meetings, Justin has elevated community voices and built momentum for a people-centered vision.

Outstanding Community Leadership — People Who Walk

Winner: Justin Cournoyer

Project: Reimagine I-175

Why they were selected:

Wee Wheel Wellington is redefining how young people experience biking by making it accessible, joyful, and confidence-building from an early age. Through hands-on instruction in parks and community spaces, the organization teaches children ages 2–12 how to ride safely while fostering independence and resilience.

Since launching in March 2025, Wee Wheel Wellington has taught more than 60 children to ride and expanded programming to include adult lessons in response to community demand. With a bold mission to get one million kids on bikes, the program exemplifies inclusive, family-centered leadership.

Naples Velo Bicycle Club – Community Rides for Safety and Recreation

For fostering a strong, safety-focused cycling community through daily group rides for all skill levels and thoughtful ride management practices. With more than 450 members, Naples Velo combines on-the-bike safety with off-the-bike connection, including distributing bike lights, to support confident, responsible riding.

Outstanding Community Leadership — People Who Bike (Organization)

Winner: Wee Wheel Wellington

Project: Youth Cycling & Education Program

Seminole County Sheriff’s Office — Headgear Hero Program

For making a measurable impact on youth safety through hands-on education. The Headgear Hero program has fitted more than 1,100 students with helmets this school year and hosted over 10 bike rodeos in the past two years, reaching more than 2,000 children and families with critical bike and helmet safety skills.

City of Boca Raton — North Park Traffic Garden

For transforming former tennis courts into a kid-sized “mini city” where children can safely learn walking, biking, and traffic skills. Created in partnership with the Greater Boca Raton Beach & Park District and Discover Traffic Garden, this free, innovative space supports Vision Zero, active play, and the development of confident future road users.

Why he was selected:

Todd Addicott has led the transformation of a former landfill in Jacksonville’s Southside into more than eight miles of purpose-built single-track mountain bike trails. The Trek Trails at Aterro Park feature berms, bridges, rock gardens, and flow sections designed for riders of all skill levels.

By coordinating volunteers, city agencies, local businesses, and sponsors, Todd helped create a regional destination for outdoor recreation. The project stands as a model for sustainable land reuse, volunteer-driven stewardship, and community-powered trail development.

For his leadership with Friends of Lake County Trails, promoting regional trail connectivity and collaborating with FDOT, Lake 100, and local businesses. His efforts support both active transportation and economic growth through expanded trail access.

Welcoming Our Newest Board Member: Master Police Officer Mark Levy

Bike/Walk Central Florida is proud to welcome Master Police Officer Mark Levy to our Board of Directors, bringing decades of public service, cycling expertise, and community leadership to our mission of creating safer, more connected places for people who walk, bike, and roll.

Officer Levy is a United States Air Force veteran, a respected law enforcement leader, and a lifelong advocate for health, safety, and education. As a Master Police Officer, he has dedicated his career to protecting communities with professionalism, tactical expertise, and a deep commitment to public safety. His passion for using bicycles as a tool for both fitness and community connection has shaped much of his service and leadership.

In addition to his law enforcement career, Officer Levy is the founder of Tough Biker Corp. , a nonprofit organization focused on physical fitness, cycling safety, and community engagement. Through its programs, he has helped introduce countless families and young people to the benefits of active transportation.

Officer Levy is also a certified Law Enforcement Bicycle Association (LEBA) Instructor, training officers in advanced bike patrol techniques that emphasize safety, efficiency, and effective community policing. His technical skill is further supported by his certification from Barnett’s Bicycle Institute, giving him professional-level mechanical expertise that enhances both his training approach and his on-the-bike work in the field.

His commitment to youth development extends statewide. Officer Levy played a key role in bringing the National Interscholastic Cycling Association (NICA) to Florida, helping build new opportunities for young riders, expand access to cycling programs, and support the next generation of student athletes.

With a Bachelor of Science degree in Leadership, Officer Levy brings not only experience but a strong foundation in mentorship, organizational growth, and strategic thinking.

We are honored to have him join the BWCF Board of Directors. His background aligns seamlessly with our mission and strengthens our ongoing work to make Central Florida safer, healthier, and more accessible for everyone.

Crosswalk Enforcement Back in Action as Students Return to School

From July 29 through August 8, 2025, the Best Foot Forward (BFF) coalition partnered with law enforcement agencies across eight counties to carry out its summer Operation Best Foot Forward with a media theme of Back to School to help protect our youngest pedestrians as they are biking and walking to school at the start of the year. These efforts support FDOT’s Target Zero initiative, which aims to reduce traffic deaths and serious injuries to zero.

This high-visibility campaign spanned nine Central Florida counties, including Brevard, Flagler, Lake, Marion, Orange, Osceola, Polk, Seminole, and Volusia . Plainclothes officers crossed at marked crosswalks where many yield rates remain dangerously low. Drivers who failed to stop were either issued a warning or a citation, which carries a minimum $164 fine and three points on their license. The goal is to reinforce Florida’s driver yield laws and encourage safer behavior around people walking and biking.

This summer’s operation included the following stats:

40 enforcement details across 9 counties and 20 municipalities
594 warnings & citations for failure to yield to pedestrians
>1 million broadcast viewers between the Orlando & Tampa news markets

Best Foot Forward Celebrates Regional Progress at the 2025 Central Florida Safety Summit

On Friday, May 9, safety leaders from across Central Florida gathered for the second annual Central Florida Safety Summit — a day dedicated to saving lives and building safer streets. Focused on advancing the region’s Target Zero goals, the vision of eliminating traffic deaths and serious injuries, the event showcased the power of collaboration in engineering, enforcement, and education.

This year, Best Foot Forward (BFF), a program by Bike/Walk Central Florida, proudly partnered with Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) District 5 , MetroPlan Orlando , and the Volusia-Flagler Transportation Planning Organization (TPO) to host the summit. Attendees shared success stories, celebrated impactful projects, and recognized the outstanding efforts of partners working every day to make Central Florida safer for people walking and biking.

Best Foot Forward Program Update

Best Foot Forward Program Manager Vince Dyer opened the awards ceremony with an annual update, celebrating the coalition’s momentum over the past year. He highlighted success stories from across Central Florida, including record improvements in driver yield rates, effective enforcement campaigns, and major infrastructure upgrades — all contributing to safer streets and saving lives.

“It’s incredible to see what our coalition has accomplished together — and this year, we have even more to celebrate,” said Vince Dyer, Program Manager for Best Foot Forward at Bike/Walk Central Florida. “Now that Best Foot Forward has expanded into nine counties, we are seeing more crosswalks than ever show year-over-year improvement. It’s clear that the momentum for safer streets is stronger than ever, and we look forward to showcasing the work of our partners who are making Central Florida safer for pedestrians and cyclists.”

Excellence in Crosswalk Safety Enforcement: Volusia County Sheriff’s Office

The Volusia County Sheriff’s Office was recognized for its outstanding enforcement efforts and commitment to improving pedestrian safety. In 2024, their targeted operations at the Ocean Shore Blvd (A1A) crosswalk near Tom Renick Park — a busy beach access point — led to significant gains. After conducting two enforcement operations and issuing 75 warnings and citations, the driver yield rate (DYR) at the site jumped from 19% to an impressive 42%, the biggest improvement seen across all counties last year through enforcement alone.

Triple E Award Winner: Seminole County Government’s Crosswalk Safety Improvements at Wekiva Neighborhood Trail

The Hunt Club Blvd crosswalk at the Wekiva Neighborhood Trail in Longwood has been closely monitored for years — and this year, those efforts have paid off. Seminole County Government removed obstructive trees, redesigned sidewalk ramps, and enhanced signage and markings to improve visibility and safety. Thanks to this long-term investment in engineering, enforcement, and education, the site now serves as a model for other high-use crosswalks around the region. This location was also the site of a sign-waving campaign to help bring awareness to drivers that it’s the law to stop for pedestrians at crosswalks.

“Improving safety is a long-term commitment that takes all of us — as residents, law officers, drivers, walkers, and engineers — working together,” said Charles Wetzel, County Traffic Engineer for Seminole County responsible for the project. “By making steady improvements over time at Hunt Club Boulevard, we’ve shown that small, consistent changes can lead to lasting impact and safer crossings for everyone.”

Excellence in Crosswalk Safety Engineering: Budinger Ave & Peghorn Nature Park

Recognizing the critical role of infrastructure in pedestrian safety, BFF honored engineering efforts that led to improvements at the Budinger Ave crosswalk near Peghorn Nature Park in St. Cloud . Located near St. Cloud Elementary School and the BMX park, this crosswalk previously saw modest improvements through multiple enforcements. However, after the installation of a Rectangular Rapid Flashing Beacon (RRFB), the driver yield rate surged from 33% to a remarkable 81%.

“Crosswalks are among the most common sites for serious pedestrian crashes, which is why they deserve careful investment,” said Cameron Crandell, PE, Deputy Public Works Director for the City of St. Cloud. “Installing an RRFB at Budinger Avenue was a major commitment, but seeing the driver yield rate more than double shows the clear return on that investment — and the real impact it can have on community safety.”

MetroPlan Orlando Receives the Randy Schrader Lifetime Achievement Award

This year, BFF introduced a very special honor — the Randy Schrader Lifetime Achievement Award — named in memory of our late teammate Randy Schrader, who passionately championed pedestrian safety until his passing in 2024.

The inaugural award was presented to MetroPlan Orlando in recognition of their steadfast commitment to Best Foot Forward since its inception. From the earliest coalition meetings to today’s regional steering committees, MetroPlan Orlando has played a foundational role in expanding and sustaining pedestrian safety efforts across Central Florida.

MetroPlan has been instrumental in helping build bridges between transportation planning agencies and local law enforcement. Their leadership helped Best Foot Forward grow from a grassroots pilot program to a nationally recognized model for community-driven pedestrian safety initiatives.

This award celebrates not only MetroPlan’s technical expertise and advocacy, but also their unwavering belief in the vision of a region where every person, regardless of how they travel, can move safely and confidently.

“Building a safer region for people walking and biking doesn’t happen overnight — it takes years of collaboration, trust, and shared commitment,” said Gary Huttmann, Executive Director of MetroPlan Orlando. “We’re proud to have been part of the Best Foot Forward coalition from the beginning and are honored to accept this award in recognition of what strong partnerships can achieve over time.”

Kayla Mitchell 2024 Citizen Transportation Advocate of the Year

We are thrilled to announce that Kayla Mitchell, Bike/Walk Central Florida’s (BWCF) Controller, was honored with the Citizen Transportation Advocate of the Year award at the WTS Central Florida Annual Scholarship & Awards Banquet held on December 4, 2024. This prestigious award recognizes individuals who have made outstanding contributions to advancing transportation initiatives and advocating for safer, more sustainable transportation options in our communities.

The event, which celebrates the achievements of transportation professionals and leaders, highlighted the continued success of the WTS Central Florida Chapter in advancing women in transportation through scholarships, professional development, and leadership recognition. Keynote speaker Michelle Maikisch, Executive Director of the Central Florida Expressway Authority , inspired the crowd with her address on leadership and collaboration in shaping the future of transportation.

Kayla was selected for this award due to her dedication to advocacy, her strong support for active transportation, and her consistent efforts to improve transportation safety and accessibility in Central Florida. Her journey into transportation advocacy began from a personal desire to walk safely around her own community. As a mom, she simply wanted to be able to walk through her neighborhood without fear for the safety of her family. This led her to become a tireless advocate for safer streets, and over the past decade, she has worked both officially and unofficially to advocate for safer streets in Central Florida.

In addition to joining MetroPlan Orlando’s Citizen Advisory Committee , Kayla helped Sanford become a designated Trail Town through a successful application to the Florida Department of Environmental Protection. She also serves on Seminole County’s Parks and Recreation Advisory Committee and is currently working to establish the first Florida Chapter of Families for Safe Streets .

After her introduction to BWCF, Kayla managed the Best Foot Forward program and supported the growth of the organization to develop a budget of one million dollars in less than four years. Her dedication and leadership continue to drive BWCF’s efforts to create safer, more connected communities for pedestrians, cyclists, and everyone who relies on active transportation.

Kayla’s recognition at the banquet is a testament to her tireless work and dedication to BWCF’s mission of creating safer, more connected communities. Her passion for making Central Florida a safer and more equitable place for pedestrians and cyclists continues to inspire all who work with her.

With over 35 years of experience as a multi-modal transportation planner in Central Florida, Greg brings a wealth of expertise in developing bike and pedestrian networks to our team. His extensive knowledge of safe and comfortable transportation planning will undoubtedly enhance BWCF’s advocacy and educational programs.

A Passion for Outdoor Recreation and Safe Transportation

Greg has a lifelong passion for outdoor activities, particularly biking and hiking. His commitment to supporting recreational activities for people of all ages has been a driving force in his career and personal life. Together with his wife, he is a dedicated advocate for trail use and safety, often exploring and promoting trails across the region. He is deeply interested in contributing to the safety and expansion of bike facilities that are accessible and enjoyable for people of all ages.

Professional Experience and Contributions to the Community

As a Florida resident, Greg has worked on trail projects throughout the state and the Southeast U.S., contributing to the growth of bike and pedestrian infrastructure that makes communities more walkable and bikeable. Over the years, he has supported BWCF in numerous ways, including public outreach, bike rodeos, safety campaigns, and enforcement events. Enhancing road safety through the design and reconstruction of Ronald Reagan Boulevard for the City of Longwood
The project included widening, milling, and resurfacing to accommodate buffered bike lanes and on-street parking.

Redesigning LYNX’s Transit Development Plan, helping Seminole, Osceola, and Orange counties plan for future growth, improve transit services, and encourage seamless use of active transportation to and from transit hubs
Kimley-Horn also serves LYNX as the Bus Shelter Program Manager to plan, design, and manage the construction of shelters throughout Central Florida.

Focusing on bicyclist and pedestrian safety improvements and enhanced connectivity in the City of Winter Park through trail feasibility studies and multi-use path trail design
